The Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI), under its Green Inclusive Finance (GIF) initiative, organized two learning exchange visits for its GIF microfinance institution partners in May 2023.
On May 10-12, 2023, 47 participants composed of selected farmer clients, board members, and staff of Bangko Kabayan and Rangtay sa Pagrang-ay Microfinance, Inc. (RPMI) participated in the farm exposure visits to established integrated, organic, and agritourism farms in Antipolo City and the provinces of Quezon, Laguna, and Batangas. The activity aimed to provide further learning from the experience and technical expertise of farm entrepreneurs. Knowledge sharing sessions took place in Melendres Farm, Bukid Amara, Costales Nature Farms, and Marona Farm. The participants also visited the Organic Agriculture Research, Development, and Extension Center and Postharvest Horticulture Training and Research Center in the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, Laguna.
On May 22-26, 2023, seven members of the executive management and staff of Kabuhayan sa Ganap na Kasarinlan Credit and Savings Cooperative (K-Coop) and Kasagana-Ka Development Center, Inc. (KDCI) visited SEDP-Simbag sa Pag-asenso, Inc. and JMH Microfinance, Inc. in Bicol. The visit aimed to learn about the experience of SEDP-Simbag and JMH’s successful implementation of their solar energy access projects. The group also met with a solar energy technology provider to explore available solar energy technologies.
The learning visits are part of a series of capacity building activities to raise awareness and capacities of target beneficiaries and MFI partners in adopting climate-resilient and adaptive interventions for agri-based enterprises and urban housing. The GIF is a partnership of MCPI, Appui au Développement Autonome, and the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development of Luxembourg. Bangko Kabayan, RPMI, and K-Coop/KDCI are partners of the initiative.
