Stakeholders gather for first Microfinance Digitalization Summit

Microfinance stakeholders gathered on March 28, 2023 at the Century Park Hotel Manila for the first Microfinance Digitalization Summit. Organized by the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI), the Summit had three plenary sessions where participants learned from the experience of microfinance institutions (MFIs), regulators, and government agencies on various digitalization initiatives; and connected MFIs with fintech companies that provide digital solutions.

The first session showcased the digitalization journey of eight MFIs – ASKI, Cantilan Bank, CARD MRI, CEVI, K-Coop, KMBI, TSKI, and TSPI. Four of the MFIs were awarded as Digital Champions of the 1st Digital Financial Inclusion Awards (DFIA), while the other four were given support to implement their digitalization initiatives under the 1st DFIA program.

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, City Government of Pasig, and the Department of Information and Communications Technology shared their mandates, strategic direction, and initiatives on digitalization in the second plenary. Eight fintech companies presented their products and services in the last plenary session.

The Summit was participated by 200 attendees composed of MFIs, regulators, government agencies, and fintech companies. It is part of the DFIA program funded by Citi Foundation and one of a series of events leading to the MCPI Annual Conference to be held on July 27-28, 2023.
