MCPI visits SELCO – a premier, renewable energy provider in Bangalore, India

A learning exchange visit was conducted by the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) with the SELCO Solar Light Pvt. Ltd. (SELCO) in Bangalore, India last August 22-26, 2016. The activity was organized by MCPI under the Developing Sustainable Energy Access (DevSEA) program funded by ADA of Luxembourg. The delegation was comprised of representatives of DevSEA partner MFIs: Alalay Sa Kaunlaran, Inc. (ASKI), Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation, Inc. (NWTF), Peoples Bank of Caraga, Inc. (PBCI), and Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC); and the MCPI DevSEA team.Continue reading

Realizing the Sustainable Development Goals through Microfinance: The 2016 MCPI Annual Conference

The Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) held its 2016 Annual Conference with the theme Realizing the Sustainable Development Goals through Microfinance on July 28-29, 2016 at the Century Park Hotel, Manila. The conference convened more than 400 microfinance practitioners, funders, government institutions, donors, investors and other development organizations to discuss the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the role of microfinance in achieving these key development targets. MCPI triumphs on its Microfinance Code Advocacy

On 03 November 2015, President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed into law the “Microfinance NGOs Act,” which was primarily sponsored by Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV. Nata de Coco Manufacturer is 2015 Citi Microentrepreneur of the Year

A partnership among the BSP, Citi Philippines, and the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI), the CMA is a nationwide search for the most outstanding micro business owners. Funded by Citi Foundation, it started in 2002 as part of the celebration for Citi’s 100th year in the Philippines. The CMA has since recognized more than 100 winners across the country. MCPI and partner institutions bring capacity-building initiatives to Albay and Nueva Ecija

The objective of building the capacity of member institutions and delivering on its purpose of providing innovative, sustainable, and client-responsive solutions to poverty in the Philippines has encouraged the Microfinance Council of the Philippines, Inc. (MCPI) to conduct a workshop series entitled “Strengthening the Capacities of MFIs.” After identifying the different planes of operation each microfinance institution (MFI) is focusing on, MCPI is offering training workshops that can help improve their capacity in terms of sustainable service delivery and effective fulfillment of social responsibility.Continue reading
