Samar Crusade Against Poverty Inc. (A Microfinance NGO)

Samar Crusade Against Poverty Inc. (A Microfinance NGO) was established in 2013 with a mission to provide marginalized sectors in rural areas with quality integrated financial and capacity building services, in a sustainable way, thus lifting households out of poverty.

SCPI piloted a credit program designed to support micro-entrepreneurs who were exploited by the informal “5-6” lending system.  The success of this initiative paved the way for the development of a community-managed microfinance program that provided accessible and sustainable financial services in rural areas of the province of Northern Samar.

Currently, SCPI adopts the “double microfinance system” depending the location it serves: for remote areas, SCPI adopts the “community-managed microfinance scheme” (CMS); while in urban areas, SCPI adopts the “individual responsibility methodology” that helps to bring down all the barriers to access to loans (no financial or physical guarantees, no joint liability collateral system) and promotes the strengthening of beneficiaries’ skills to develop their income-generating activities.
